Principal's Corner

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On behalf of the staff at Robert L. Merritt Jr. High, I am happy to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year! We are looking forward to a very productive partnership with you to ensure the children of Sunflower County Consolidated School District will achieve their highest academic potential at Robert L. Merritt Jr. High. We understand that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both home and school. A strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education and have a positive impact on our school’s environment. As partners, we will share the responsibility for our children’s success and I want you to know that we will do our very best to fulfill our responsibilities as professional educators.

We ask that you support your child’s learning by making sure that he/she attends school daily and arrives on time ready for the day’s learning experiences. Please make sure that your child has materials such as paper, pencils, notebooks, folders, backpack, and other supplies necessary for school. He/she should complete all homework assignments given by teachers for this ensures that your children will have more time to practice on important skills given by the teacher. Also, please encourage your child or children to read daily to improve literacy skills and ask your child to inform you and his/her teachers if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject. Lastly, your child needs to know what you expect him/her to have a successful year at Merritt.

Your child/children will receive a copy of the student handbook so that you and your child can review it together. If you have any questions about the expectations set forth in the handbook or in the classroom, please feel free to contact me or to discuss them with your child’s teacher. It is very important that you and your child are fully informed regarding expectations related to appropriate behavior for a safe and productive school year. The wonderful staff at Robert L. Merritt Jr. High and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and we look forward to meeting and working with you.

Educationally yours,

Principal Turner
